The changemakers receiving the 2024 MRC Annual Excellence in Recycling Awards go the extra mile to prioritize sustainability and waste diversion, bringing circularity to Michigan’s economy and communities alike. Chris V. Case and Jarret Schlaff, as well as the recycling professionals at Goodwill Green Works and Montcalm County, serve as role models as we usher in new materials management legislation and embrace evolving attitudes surrounding recycling. Congratulations to the winners of the 2024 Annual Excellence in Recycling Awards! Thanks to the Architectural Salvage Warehouse of Detroit for using reclaimed wood to create a beautiful trophy for our award recipients.

Americans aren’t doing nearly enough when it comes to recycling, particularly at home. Just over 20% of the plastic, glass, cardboard and paper is actually recycled, according to a report by the Recycling Partnership. Recycling's availability is a key issue: After studying the 9,000 collection programs in the U.S, the organization discovered that 85% of single-family homes had access to recycling, but that figure fell to 37% for multi-family homes. And not every state accepts all recyclables. The partnership says forcing package producers to pay fees for their waste would dramatically boost recycling. California and Oregon have the highest recycling participation rates (37%); a number of states, including Montana, Mississippi, North Dakota and Alabama, have participation rates under 10%.https://lnkd.in/g_cjVKSF

Did you know that with Pavement Recycling, we can reuse up to 100% of existing materials, often in-place? But that's not all. By reducing trucking and heating requirements, this technique significantly lowers fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. With reduced trucking and heating, we're making tangible strides towards a greener, cleaner future.

A roadmap for recycling packaging in my home state of Colorado is underway! How do brands and retailers do their part? Always design against the ‘current recycling system’. Those that start now will avoid the fees associated with EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility). Those that don’t comply will help excellerate the process to advancenent of the future state. When dealing with recycling, the journey is part of the experience—an expression of the seriousness of one’s intent. 📦

Wastefront, the Norwegian waste tyre recycling company, recently announced that Europe’s largest distributors of carbon products, Weber & Schaer, had signed a strategic offtake and on-sale agreement for their Recovered Carbon Black (rCB). The agreement secures Wastefront’s ground-breaking and fully circular supply chain for the UK’s end-of-life tyres (ELTs). It is for a minimum of 35% of the rCB produced at Wastefront’s £100 million Sunderland plant, with the opportunity to further scale up in the future.Read about how the agreement helps Wastefront achieve total circularity here: https://lnkd.in/eutrG3ca #Wastefront #CircularEconomy #WasteTyreRecycling #RecoveredCarbonBlack #WeberAndSchaer #SupplyChain #Sustainability #ELTs #WasteManagement #Innovation #dkukmember #dkuk #strongertogether #wecelebratedanishness #weconnectpeople #wehaveagoodtime
