Corn Bread Sweet

If you’d like cornbread that’s sweet, but still keto, you can add one-eighth teaspoon of stevia to the batter.

I’ve made it that way and it’s fantastic.

I think it would also be amazing with a tablespoon or two of honey added to the recipe, but I haven’t tried that so not sure if other ingredients need to be adjusted accordingly.

With cast iron you get the benefit of a very hot pan, a non-stick surface and making cornbread is one of the best ways to build up your pan's seasoning.

Is gluten free cornbread the same as regular cornbread? ›

While corn is gluten free, most cornbread recipes also include regular, all-purpose flour which makes them not gluten free. That said, my recipe swaps all-purpose flour with a measure-for-measure / 1:1 gluten-free flour blend. I promise that nobody will ever know the difference.

Preheat your pan

You WANT some sizzle here. This helps develop the perfect crust and keeps your cornbread from being too crumbly. Stick your skillet in the oven to warm up as it preheats; it usually takes 10 to 15 minutes to get your skillet to just the right temperature!

How do I make sure my food doesn't stick to my cast iron skillet? ›

Prior to cooking, add about a teaspoon of oil to your skillet and heat it gradually on the stovetop or in the oven to help reduce sticking. After cooking, allow the cookware to cool, then use a pan scraper to remove stuck-on food, scrub with a nylon brush or nonscratch pad, hand dry, and add a generous layer of oil.

Should you use butter in a cast iron pan? ›

Yes, you can season the pans for frying, sautéing, or baking in cast iron cookware like pans, pots, or skillets with butter, but it's not the right choice to season it for the first time. Butter immediately starts to smoke when added to a heated pan because cast iron can withstand a lot of heat.

Can I substitute corn flour for gluten-free flour? ›

How do you keep bread from sticking to cast iron? ›

To prevent burning, use coarse cornmeal or wheat bran

This layer helps keep the dough from sticking to the cast iron but also lifts it up to prevent burning.

How do I make my cast iron non-stick? ›

This seasoning (protective layer) is formed by applying a thin layer of oil or fat to a clean, dry cast iron piece and then heating it for an extended time at a very high heat. Regularly seasoning cast iron to maintain the protective layer is recommended.

Why does cornbread stick to the skillet? ›

The surface of cast iron expands as it gets hotter, which opens up minor abrasions in the pan, and when it cools, the small rifts swell shut and physically trap particles of the cornbread in the pan itself.
