Can You Upload New Fonts in Canva?

Canva is a handy platform that allows you to create really any design for your projects at home or for your business. Although they offer a lot of customizable features, some are not as readily available as others. With their free plan, you have access to a portion of their fonts and pre-set designs and elements, which can be frustrating. Luckily, their pro-membership is rather low-cost, currently only $12.95 per month.

Sadly, if you want to upload your own fonts to your Canva account, you will need the pro-membership. This allows you access to the pro feature of “brand kits” which is where you can allocate specific fonts, logos, and color palettes to a brand for quick use.

More specifically, Canva team owners, administrators, and brand designers can upload fonts when using Canva Pro, Canva for Teams, Canva for Education, and Canva for Nonprofits.

This brand kit is where you will upload your new fonts to Canva. At the moment, they have a limit of 500 fonts per brand kit – which is more than enough in my opinion.

What Fonts Can You Upload to Canva?

Just because you have a specific font doesn’t mean you can actually upload and use it in Canva. Canva requires your font to be in the form of OTF, TTF, and WOFF.

You will need to make sure that the font is licensed for embedding or it may not upload. Most fonts are (and you can typically check in the details before uploading). BUT, if you’re unsure, contact the seller directly!

How to Upload New Fonts in Canva

Before you get started, make sure you have a pro-subscription or sign-up for the free trial that Canva offers to new users – otherwise, you won’t be able to complete the next few steps. Additionally, have your file ready and downloaded to your computer to easily uploaded it at the corresponding step.

Let’s break it down on how to upload new fonts in Canva:

Congrats! Now that your font(s) have been uploaded to your Canva brand kit, they’re ready to use! If at any point you need to make changes to your custom fonts in your brand kit, you can choose to “manage uploaded fonts” in your Fonts section within your Brand Kit.

Where to Find Custom Fonts to Upload to Your Canva Brand Kits

Custom fonts can be found in many common places like Etsy, Creative Market, and a few privately owned businesses that offer memberships and subscriptions to their designs. Personally, I tend to shop seasonally for my fonts and that’s how I tend to organize them in my Brand Kit.

When you’re looking for a specific style, I recommend starting with Etsy until you’re comfortable shopping through an alternative website that doesn’t have the same guarantees for you as a buyer (like getting a refund if your font doesn’t work like it’s supposed to).
